This six-session leadership foundation class will feature relevant leadership topics in today’s workplace to help you maximize your potential and advance your team to success. Develop your communication, collaboration and leadership skills by learning from the experts and local leaders through interactive sessions and discussions. Network and engage with other professionals. Successful completers will receive a certificate of completion from Wor-Wic Community College.

Explore leadership myths (what to avoid), key leadership traits and effective leadership strategies. Incorporating well-accepted theories and leadership practices, including Simon Sinek’s Purpose-Driven Leadership and The Power of Why, learn how to lead with a clear sense of purpose to inspire and align teams.

These sessions will cover:

  • Developing a deeper understanding of leadership principles and how to apply them
  • Identifying values, and then specific behaviors that bring those values to life
  • Prioritizing the well-being and development of team members
  • Creating a customer-centric culture with the importance of being intentional and purposeful

About the Instructor:

Jeffrey M. Fried, MHA, LFACHE, ACC brings more than 40 years of leadership experience in healthcare and executive coaching. He started off as a pharmacy technician and later served as an Assistant Vice-President at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore and as Chief Operating Officer of Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, PA., before moving to Sussex County in 1995 to join Beebe Medical Center as their President/CEO where his team earned national recognition for excellence in patient satisfaction and leadership and was named the “Top Leadership Team in the United States” for small and medium-sized hospitals by Health Leaders Magazine. After retiring from healthcare administration, Jeff founded JMF Advisors, coaching leaders across industries including healthcare, finance, and technology. He is a certified executive coach and chairs a Vistage peer group for business owners and CEOs. Jeff has taught leadership and healthcare administration at several universities and continues to lead training programs for business and professional organizations. Over the last 30 years, Jeff has been privileged to serve on many boards throughout the state of Delaware. He holds degrees from the University of Kansas and Washington University in St. Louis. Jeff and his wife Sherry reside in Sussex County and have three children, six grandchildren, and two rescue dogs.

Kevin McAdams, CEO of Perdue Farms, Inc

Kevin McAdams, CEO of Perdue Farms, will share a grounded, real-world approach to leadership in times of transformation. With a focus on building trust, creating clarity, and aligning teams around a shared direction, he’ll explore what it takes to lead an organization where legacy meets innovation.

These sessions will cover:

  • Listening and learning as a leadership discipline: How intentional listening builds credibility, surfaces insight, and drives better decision-making
  • Building a strategy roadmap that sticks: Turning vision into action with clear priorities, aligned teams, and the right pace
  • Driving strategy, performance and leadership in real time: Creating buy-in through honesty, consistency, and connection–especially when the path forward isn’t always easy

About the Instructor:

Kevin McAdams, Chief Executive Officer, leads the Perdue Farms senior leadership team, including its two independent operating companies Perdue Foods and Perdue AgriBusiness, and the company’s corporate function. McAdams was named CEO in July 2023 and is the fifth person to serve in that capacity. He joined Perdue Farms in July 2022 as President of Perdue Foods and COO for Perdue Farms, Inc. Previous to this role, Kevin was the President, North America (NA) at Jack Links Protein Snacks, a privately held family-owned company. His previous senior positions include President of Schwan’s Consumer Brands, and President and COO of Pabst Brewing Company. Earlier in his career, he held operating roles with Mizkan, Red Bull North America, The Coca-Cola Company and Frito-Lay. McAdams graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.

Explore how Behavioral Interviewing ensures evaluations that are fair, accurate and can provide great candidate experiences. There’s nothing worse than finding the right candidate, only to have them turn you down because of a poor interview experience or worse, hiring the wrong candidate for the job.

These sessions will cover:

  • Creating exceptional candidate experiences
  • Defining success criteria for your specific roles
  • Building comprehensive interview guides to get the right answers
  • Asking effective and legal interview questions

About the Instructor:

Kevin Hughes founded Chesapeake Learning & Development in 2023. He has over 25 years of experience in the learning and development field, working with a wide variety of organizations and industries. Kevin is adept at collaborating with leadership to ensure all levels of employees get what they need to grow professionally. Kevin is certified in several training courses, including DISC, Situational Leadership Experience, Self-Leadership, and Targeted Selection (Behavioral Interviewing). He is a Harrison Assessments coach. In addition to these certifications, he has built and facilitated training programs on effective communications, giving and receiving feedback, personal brand, customer service, and more. Holding a B.S. from Towson University in Baltimore, Kevin majored in Mass Communications and minored in Music Performance. He lives on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
